Okay I'm going to lay this out on the line because I'm tired of having to wade through so much BS from people who do not know what they're talking about. If you meet a transgender person while you are walking down the street it is not your place to assume that you are somehow some kind of authority on our lives our motivation or our place in the world. Most likely you will have thought about us and our lives all of maybe 10 or 15 minutes tops meanwhile we have thought about that or entire lives, day in and day out so do not assume that you know better than useven if you have read books about us and our struggles or know somebody who is trans.
And a lot of this equally applies to people who consider themselves to be our allies it is not your place to choose our battles for us,or to try to decide for us what we can or cannot be offended by it is not your place to tell us that we should not be offended when people ask us, upon meeting if we have had "the surgery" yet that is a deeply personal question and they are essentially asking what our genitals look like and bottom line it is none of their damn business,I would never think of doing that to anyone.it is also not your place to try to convince us the demeaning terms like tranny can be acceptable or that we should try to reappropriate terms like that, you have not lived our experience you do not understand the emotional baggage attached to that loaded hateful word, for far too many trans women that is one of the last things they here just before the baseball bat cracks their skull wide open, because somebody thinks they have the right to remove us from the world because of their own insecurities about us, so no,most of us want absolutely nothing to do with reapropriating that term
instead of feeling that it is your place to assume that you are in some kind of position to conduct and correct our lives for us and educate us about what we are what our motivations are and what we need to do maybe just maybe you should shut up and listen to us because far too often you have so much of it so wrong because you have assumed so much about us and talked when you should have listened
